Pair Field - New collection presentation featuring Roni Horn

From 29 March 2025, De Pont Museum will present Pair Field A New Presentation with works by American artist Roni Horn. This exhibition will be comprised entirely of pieces from the museum’s own collection and will centre on a new interpretation of Pair Field, an installation that was first displayed during the museum’s opening in 1992. Horn will visit Tilburg in March 2025 in order to develop a fresh vision for the work and to install it in De Pont’s impressive 35 x 35-metre main gallery. The remaining galleries will house other iconic works by Horn, such as the 100-part photographic series You are the Weather.
Pair Field (1991) consists of eighteen pairs of sculptures made from solid copper and steel. Although each pair has a unique form, their rounded contours contain identical volumes. The work brings together kinship and mystery while exploring concepts such as mutual connection, isolation and materiality.
You are the Weather (1994-1996) is made up of 100 portraits of a young woman, each one set against a backdrop of Icelandic waters. Subtle changes in her facial expression and the light result in a contemplative and intimate work which touches on themes of identity, subjectivity and the power of looking.
About Roni Horn
Roni Horn (New York, 1955) is among the most influential artists of her generation. Utilising a wide variety of media, she explores themes including identity, nature and perception through sculptures, photographs, drawings and text-based works. Her art is characterised by a minimalist and conceptual approach in which repetition and subtle variations play a recurring role. The Icelandic landscape is a key source of inspiration for her oeuvre. In 2024, Horn was the subject of major solo exhibitions in the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark) and Museum Ludwig (Germany).
De Pont will display Roni Horn’s works at the same time as
THEATERS OF LIFE, Japanese artist Meiro Koizumi’s first major solo exhibition in the Netherlands.
